Principals
Paul Tu
Paul is a Managing Partner and founder of Blue Ocean Equity Partners and leads the firm's acquisition activities. Paul has over 20 years of operational, entrepreneurial and investment experience. He founded BGI Americas Corporation, a genomics sequencing service provider, grew the company to over $15 million in revenue and a full staff within a year, and collaborated with leading pharmaceutical companies, including Merck, Pfizer, Novartis and Eli Lilly etc., making BGI one of the world's largest genome sequencing service providers.
Prior to BGI Americas, Paul was a Principal at MassVentures, a Boston-based venture capital firm. Over his 10 years at MassVentures, Paul was involved in all aspects of investing and managing investments in privately held companies, including serving on their boards of directors and working closely with their executives to develop strategies, recruit senior management and secure follow-on financing. Paul's previous investments included uTest, the world's largest marketplace for software testing services and winner of the "Most Innovative Company of the Year" by American Business Awards in 2011; Inceptor Inc., a search engine marketing software company acquired by SuperMedia (NASDAQ: SPMD); and Profile Systems, a supply chain management software and service provider acquired by Comergent Technologies Inc. and subsequently acquired by Sterling Commerce, a subsidiary of AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T).
Before MassVentures, Paul was Vice President at Eastern Bank Commercial Lending Group and Assistant Vice President at Bank of America (formerly Fleet Bank/Shawmut Bank) Business Banking Group. During his 7 years as a commercial lender, Paul financed and worked closely with a significant number of family owned or privately held businesses. Paul holds an MBA from MIT Sloan School of Management and a B.S. from Boston University.
Michael Corey
Michael is a Managing Partner of Blue Ocean Equity Partners. He is an active member in the technology community and a frequent speaker at technology and business conferences throughout the world, from Australia to Brazil. In 2015, Onalytica recognized him as one of the top 100 individuals who influence the cloud. Michael is also a recognized Oracle ACE, a recognized VMware vExpert, a recognized Microsoft SQL Server Most Valuable Professional (MVP) and is on the Talkin’ Cloud 200 Computing Executives and Experts List.
Michael is the original Oracle press author, frequent blogger and writer for Database Trends and Applications and a regular columnist for Big Data Quarterly. Michael Corey leverages his extensive experience and business savvy to manage and expand Ntirety into the premier Remote DBA & Database Virtualization firm in the United States. He is a frequent speaker at technology and business conferences throughout the world and has written numerous articles and books, which were published by (Oracle Press/Osborne McGraw-Hill,), VMware Press on topics such as Virtualizing SQL Server with VMware: Doing IT Right, Oracle Database 12 Install, Configure & Maintain Like a Professional to Oracle Data Warehousing.
Michael was the founder of Ntirety. Ntirety was one of the first companies in the world to focus on Remote Database Administration. Ntirety in fact coined the term Database Administration as a Service® which is a registered trademark of Nirety. In March of 2014 Ntirety was acquired by HOSTING out of Denver, Colorado. Prior to Ntirety, Michael Corey co-founded Database Technologies (DBT), the first consulting company on the East Coast to specialize in Oracle and other relational databases. Under his direction, Database Technologies experienced triple-digit growth and in 1997, was recognized by Deloitte & Touche, and Hale and Dorr as the fastest growing, technology company in New England and the 51st fastest growing technology company in the United States.
Michael is a past president of the Independent Oracle Users Group (IOUG) where he helped found the Professional Association of SQL Server. He is also a founding board member of the IOUG Virtualization SIG and IOUG VMware SIG. He is a member of the VMware Guru program, the original recipient of the IOUG “Special Recognition” award now known as the Chris Wooldridge Award and received the only Life Time Membership awarded to Michael by the Independent Oracle Users Group for her service to the technology community.
Michael received a gubernatorial appointment to the Massachusetts Robert H. Goddard Council for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and currently sits on the Executive Board. He is a graduate of Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts.
